What To Expect On The First Session

Telehealth sessions at CornerStone Counseling are designed to be welcoming and collaborative, creating a comfortable and productive therapeutic environment. I understand that starting therapy can sometimes feel overwhelming; that is why I am here to reassure you that there is no expectation or pressure for you to know exactly what to say or where to begin.

My role as your dedicated therapist is to serve as a compassionate guide throughout your journey. I will facilitate the conversation, gently ask thought provoking questions, and work alongside you to shape the session’s focus in a way that feels supportive, manageable, and aligned with your personal goals. The structure is flexible, ensuring the focus remains on your needs and goals.

A significant benefit of engaging in telehealth is the ability to attend your session from a location where you feel most secure and at ease. Telehealth can enhance client comfort by allowing individuals to remain in a familiar environment, which often increases a sense of control and emotional safety. This added comfort may facilitate more open communication and deeper engagement in the therapeutic process compared to traditional in-office settings.

Privacy and Security

To ensure your confidentiality, all telehealth sessions utilize a HIPAA-compliant platform. For the best experience, please select a quiet and private space for your session.

 A Gentle Reminder

Feeling nervous or apprehensive before your first therapy session is completely understandable. These feelings are a natural response to beginning something new and personal.

Please know that the structure of telehealth therapy is intentionally designed to reduce barriers to mental wellness, not introduce additional pressure or stress. My goal is to make the process as accessible, comfortable, and convenient as possible for you. You are absolutely allowed, and even encouraged, to approach this experience one step at a time, moving at a speed that feels right for you. There’s no expectation for you to “perform” or share more than you are ready to during your healing journey.

Sessions remain flexible, allowing us to shift, redirect, or pause as needed to ensure you feel heard, supported, and validated, moving at a pace that feels right for you.

The Struggle Men Carry in Silence

Men’s Mental Health Matters:  There’s a message many men grow up hearing, whether directly or indirectly: “Be strong.” “Handle it yourself.” “Don’t cry.” “Push through it.” “Man up.” For many men, emotions become something to hide rather than something to understand. Over time; stress, anxiety, grief, anger, pressure, trauma, exhaustion, can all build up beneath […]

How I Make Telehealth Therapy Engaging

When people hear the word “telehealth therapy” one of the first questions they ask is: How do you create engagement through a screen? This is a valid question, and honestly, it’s something I’ve spent years learning how to do well. Working with children, teens, and adults through telehealth for over six years, I can confidently […]
